Lego

The modern Lego brick was patented on January 28, 1958 and bricks from that year are still compatible with bricks today. And Google celebrates:

More sorting

Is it possible I've been bitten by a sorting-bug without notice?
I started organizing and sorting my embroidery and cross stitch fibers....

Sorting, Actress and Hoody

So. I will not talk about the Midwinterfest because there wasn't one. We found that out after driving 350 km to Oerlinghausen. Someone obviously forgot to email us there wasn't going to be a Midwinterfest...

I am writing about my day today. I've been sorting out all the papers I have about my education as a volunteer tour guide at the zoo . I've been trained to be a tour guide for our local zoo for 18 months now and it's about time I'll sort all my stuff on that subject. This is what that looks like:

And yes, that is "queen" Ayla, sitting in front of the curtain looking down on the people (i.e. me) working hard. :D

Between sorting and entertaining Ayla, I managed to get some knitting done. The hoody is growing slowly, but steadily:

Cut!

The first cut is the hardest...

All I have to do is start cutting....
But that is what scares me the most.. what if I do it wrong??
Then Kees won't have new clothes on the Oerlinghausen Mittwinterfest.
And I promised his new outfit would be ready by then. "Then" is next Saterday...
So I'll start cutting, wish me luck :D

Save the Polar bear!

I 'stole' this from the Center for Biological Diversity website

Help Protect Polar Bears as Endangered

Polar bears are in trouble. The melting of the Arctic is killing them. Some are already starving and drowning. If global warming is allowed to continue, the Arctic will be entirely ice-free during the summer, dooming polar bears to extinction.

But as you may have seen in the news over the past few days, federal bureaucrats are illegally delaying a decision to protect the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act. Meanwhile they are fast-tracking Arctic oil drilling while the bear remains unprotected!

The Center for Biological Diversity and our allies are preparing to go to court to force the administration to finalize the Endangered Species Act listing. But we need your help as well. Polar bears need a massive groundswell of public support to show that people are watching and will not tolerate delays, denial, or political game-playing.

Please sign our polar bear petition today. Tell the Bush administration to immediately list the polar bear as an endangered species. With your help, we'll send the petition with 50,000 signatures to the White House on January 31st.

Please sign the petition today!

What art movement are you?

I saw this on Lene's blog and took the test as well. So I am:

Expressionism

Moody, emotional, and even a bit angsty... you certainly know how to express your emotions.
At times, you tend to lack perspective on your life, probably as a result of looking inward too much.
This introspection does give you a flair for the dramatic. And it's even maybe made you cultivate some artistic talents!
You have a true artist's temperament... which is a blessing and a curse.

Yarn!

Sarah asked on her blog if we could guess when her Ravelry invite would be dropped in her mailbox. I made an educated guess and look: I won! So she sent me some very beautiful, bright coloured yarn. As she described it:

"Self-striping, in, um, vibrant colors. Wouldn’t that look good on your feet? That’s about 460 yards of superwash merino - nylon, more than enough for a pair of socks."

I love it:

So now I have to get me a nice pattern for this yarn.

And then last week or so, Annemarie wrote an email to our SnB-Yahoo group. She had free stuff and if we wanted anything, we had to let her know. I was game for her off-white and so she came to our SnB-Meeting yesterday evening and look what she got me:

A bag full of lovely off-white yarn, more than enough to knit me a sweater..
I also need a pattern for this.

Any suggestions, anyone? :D
